Whew! I'm finally done with my Dad's hat! It was a bit boring for me, with simple ribbed edging and stockinette stitch for the rest of it. But, I'm glad its completed and off my needles!
As for my Taos Cabled Scarf... it's dead. I ripped it up so I could use the yarn for something else, since i didn't really like how the scarf was turning out. It wasn't reversible, so I didn't like it.
My mom's cowl took a long hibernation, and I'm ready to get back to work on it. I need to finish it by November 24, as that day is my mom's bday.
Smittens are going to be cast on ... November 1st.
My Knit a Square is about half way done.
April got caught in a bit of simply soft yarn...
Thats all for today!

Knit a Square
Hello!
I found this great charity that knits and sends 8 inch squares to help keep orphans and AIDS children in Africa. Knitting for charity is one of those activities that has always caught my interest, so I thought I'd help out the "Knit a Square" charity.
I'm working on my first 8 inch square, which is worked in the garter stitch. Keeping it simple for the first one! And I hope to knit lots of them with my group. My goal is to make 100 squares this year, which will take a lot of time and effort, if you would like to participate in this Charity KAL with my group, then go ahead!:)
The "Knit a Square" website is here. Check it out!
I'm so excited to help warm the AIDs children and orphans in Africa.

Pencil Amigurumi Pattern
Here is my little pencil amigurumi pattern I was talking about! This pattern is cute for teacher gifts, or presents to your fellow author/drawer friends!
Materials:
Yarn: Bulky Weight yarn (I worked double stranded w/ a light worsted yarn) in colors: yellow(pencil base), green (metal piece thingie), light brown (wood tip), and pink (eraser)
40 in circular knitting needles in size 3.25 (or dpns)
Yarn Needle
Black Felt
Skills Required: knitting, purling, working in the round, k2tog, picking up stitches, casting on
Pattern (beginning with yellow yarn)
CO 42 Stitches using magic loop or dpns. Join in the round, and place marker.
Rounds 1-39: Knit all stitches
Round 40: Switch to light brown color. Knit all sts
Round 41: K7, k2tog till last st, k1
Round 42-45: Knit all stitches
Round 47: K1 K2tog till last 2 stitches, k2
Round 48-50: Knit all stitches
Round 51: K2tog, k2tog, k2tog, k2tog, k1, k2tog, k2tog, k2tog, k2tog, k2tog, k1
BO all stitches. Note: There should be a teeny hole but do not close it up! :)
You may want to start stuffing...
PU stitches all around the rim where the YELLOW is, this is the edge where we casted on. Pick these stitches up in GREEN.
Note: I am beginning to start a fresh count of rounds, beginning with "Round 1".
Round 1-5: Knit all stitches
Change to pink yarn.
Round 1-13: Knit all stitches
Round 14: k2tog all stitches. PLEASE NOTE: You may have to adjust your stitch's positions on your needles.
Round 15: k2tog all stitches. PLEASE NOTE: You may have to adjust stitch's positions on your needles.
Thread yarn through the remaining loops on your needles and fasten off.
Finishing: Finish stuffing and weave in ends. Add black felt onto the light brown tip of your pencil amigurumi. It doesn't have to be perfect, I will show you pics 1 post up.
Give this to someone special: teacher, friend, anybody who would appreciate a gigantic, plush, squeezable ticonderoga pencil!
Enjoy,
Emily
